LETTER TO SENATORS

We emailed the following senators (Brian Curran and Dean Skelos) the following letter because of their anti-tobacco budget cuts-

You can help prevent 34,000 deaths a year.

On Wednesday, the Ways and Means Committee will hold a hearing on Governor Cuomo's budget. This budget will eliminate line item funding for New York’s tobacco control program (quitlines, nicotine patches, etc), which has already lost over half its funding in the last few years.

New York state receives $2 billion in tobacco generated revenue. It is crucial to dedicate at least some of this revenue to programs that promote the public's health.

Tobacco leads to 34,000 deaths in New York each year, and 110,000 new cancer diagnoses. Please fund the programs that have proven to keep kids from smoking and help smokers quit.
